Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study is to examine the attitudes of recreation department students toward dance.

Methods: This study was conducted with a voluntary sample group consisting of 122 students (60 females and 62 males) from the Recreation Department of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University's Faculty of Sports Sciences. The sample was selected using a purposive sampling method. Descriptive information about the students was collected through an information form, while data on attitudes toward dance were obtained using a measurement tool developed by Durhan (2019), which consists of 39 items and three sub-dimensions. Statistical analysis results were considered significant at the p<0.05 level.

Results: A statistically significant difference was found in the mean scores of the sub-dimensions of attitudes toward dance when compared by gender (p<0.05). Accordingly, it was determined that females had higher mean scores than males in the sub-dimensions of awareness, avoidance, and motivation. On the other hand, no significant differences were observed based on age or grade level (p>0.05).

Conclusion: In conclusion, the study examined the attitudes of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Recreation Department students toward dance and revealed that females performed better than males in terms of awareness, avoidance, and motivation levels. Conversely, another noteworthy finding was that age and grade level differences were not determining factors in attitudes toward dance.
